New "Recommends Feature" for Facebook Fan Pages

Facebook  is renowned for serving its users with new features, totally unannounced. We are often left wondering whether Facebook is implying that their real target market is very discovery-savvy internet socialites, or rather those always up for the new challenge of finding new features on their Facebook. It’s always a cat and mouse game on Facebook to learn whether your private photos will be sold to the public or whether there are cool new marketing / user upgrades.

It’s really anyone’s guess as to what’s coming next, but with the recent spate of  summer updates, Facebook has added a cool new “Recommend This Place” feature to its fan pages associated with a physical location.

recommend this place facebook What’s really cool is that when fans go in to recommend a business via the “Recommend This Place” tab, that recommendation appears on their news feed for friends to see. As any business knows, loyal customer recommendations are priceless, especially those the customer willingly shares with their friend base.

As shown in the screenshot to the right, there are control options for the fan giving the recommendation, but the default is to share recommendations with the public, which is of course even better for business.

As we mentioned above, most users are probably not aware that they can recommend their favorite “places” of business to friends, so it may either take some time for them to discover these new powers, or some prompting from businesses. Wise merchants might take a few moments to let their fans know about this new feature via a newsletter article, social media mention, or even an in-store sign asking fans for an endorsement. Many customers who are truly pleased with a business’s service are glad for the opportunity to provide testimonials, but often don’t act simply because they don’t know the best way to ring in the celebration.
