Four Tips For Prepping Yahoo! Store Product Images For Success

It seems that reports on new ecommerce strategies and technologies are released every few days. This is a fast-changing world, so folks in this industry should expect the aroma of innovation to fill the air almost daily. In a recent email, Amy Tweddle of Diffusion informed FastPivot:¬† “we have just launched the Brandbank Retail Media Report which has revealed that e-retailers with rich media features on their websites could be losing significant sales.

The main findings of the research are:

* 39% of consumers are deterred from buying by having to wait for product videos or images to load
* More than half (58%) are put off by having to download additional software or plug-ins to view product images or video
* Over two thirds (67%) are put off buying a product where no product image is given or if there is limited textual information (61%)
* Other top consumer gripes include poor quality product images (58%) and out-of-date product information (58%)

While the statistics might be new, it’s nice to know that there is still a fundamental wisdom around something as basic as featuring good quality, hassle-free product images on your Yahoo! Store. Here’s a breakdown on what these statistics mean for Yahoo! Store merchants:

  • Make sure your Yahoo! Store product images load quickly.
  • Don’t require Yahoo! Store shoppers to install special plug ins or software etc. to view product images.
  • Use product images, along with descriptive product text with any product featured on your Yahoo! Store.
  • Use only high quality images. This doesn’t necessarily mean larger images that will load slowly (discouraged in first bullet). Make sure that the product photos featured on your Yahoo! Store are professional quality, not do-it-yourself Polaroids taken in bad light/setting etc.
