Internet security is on everyone’s minds these days. Nearly all entities (personal, business, NGO, and government) are affected when the criminal element penetrates system security. Some, like the Government of China, have gone to great lengths to freeze out any questionable, unapproved, or malicious content. Of course the reaction to such radical online fortification has been a shoe in the face (of the Great Firewall’s Architect), which seems to be a symbolic kick against alleged oppressive security policies.
On the more exposed end of the internet security spectrum are the hacker engineered system compromises we’re reading about at Sony, and other large corporations, etc. Of course, these are two very popular cases, and obvious hacker targets, but what are online business merchants doing to combat internet security threats? The best thing they can do is to choose the best online ecommerce store platform for their business.
We’ve been working with merchants on the Yahoo! Store platform since 1997 and have found it to be one of the most reliable online stores on the market.
While there’s no platform we’ve seen without its internal glitches, etc. one reason many mid-to-large businesses choose to go with Yahoo! Store development is because of the solid set of security features it has. This is not to say that it is impregnable to attackers, but because it complies with the highest internet data security standards, it has become a trusted platform to those who want to buy and sell through a secure portal like Yahoo! Merchant Solutions. Under the Yahoo! Small Business site, there’s a Yahoo! Merchant Solutions Security page which clearly lists which security features merchants and buyers can count on: “Security for buyers when ordering through a Yahoo! Store” includes: Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and CISP Compliance; “Security for merchants when ordering Yahoo! Services” includes: Secure Socket Layer (SSL), Security Key, Secure Storage, etc. There’s also the question of how safe the Yahoo! Store content is. To address those concerns Yahoo! Small Business says that Yahoo! Store data is backed up and stored in multiple places.
So, back to our main question, Is the Yahoo! Store Platform a safe choice for ecommerce merchants? From our experience and from what’s published on Yahoo! Small Business’s website, merchants and buyers alike should feel confident that is the case.
However, if you’ve experienced anything different, we encourage comments to illustrate the contrary.
