Since 1997, FastPivot.com has designed and launched an extensive line of custom Yahoo! Stores. Each one brings something very unique to our portfolio. Any new FastPivot custom store (*custom meaning they didn’t use a style guide) always includes special features worth noting. Take for example our recent MixedChicks.net redesign launch.
Have a look at the two homepage screen captures below. The difference is so dramatic that it’s better to just let the “before & after” features speak for themselves.
One very important part of this project was the detailed/custom content and housekeeping page layouts (press, video, who we are, etc.).
The Flash based image feature (below) is nice for creating a personality and showcasing images, especially for using in the manner they did (customer pictures, press page screenshots, celebrities, etc.).
MixedChicks implemented a Flash Image Gallery (see above screen cap.) on several of their image intensive pages. This feature allows many images to be seen at once, with a “scrolling” effect that changes the image that is being focused on. The Flash Image Gallery also makes use of titles, secondary (expanded) images, and additional information. Benefits include reduced page length, dynamic visitor interaction, and the “wow” factor that makes a page stand out.
Every e-commerce store wants visitors to their site to feel confident that they will be well “taken care of” and that the products offered are of high quality. The best way to provide this comfort is with the use of customer testimonials.
Successful web-stores have a dedicated testimonials page that allows a visitor to read the opinions of other people, so that he/she gets a good sense for how the company and products are perceived.
On MixedChicks, this concept was taken several steps further.
The first was to install a rotating testimonials area directly on the home page of the website.
This allows visitors to see right away the thoughts of others, without having to go to “the testimonials page.” A testimonial is displayed for a set amount of time, and is then replaced by the next testimonial.
The second was to incorporate the Flash Image Gallery. Since MixedChicks sells hair care products, what better testament to the effectiveness than to display before/after photos of customers who are using the products, and include their comments as well.
Also, this site showcases the important of having good product and lifestyle shots to showcase your store. (*FastPivot.com Yahoo! Store designers offer this service to small stores without graphics departments)

How do you organize images on a web page to display, with added information, without creating a page that is so long that visitors will lose interest?
For our recently launched MixedChicks the answer was to implement a Flash Image Gallery on several of their image intensive pages. This feature allows many images to be seen at once, with a “scrolling” effect that changes the image that is being focused on. The Flash Image Gallery also makes use of titles, secondary (expanded) images, and additional information. What is the benefit to this you ask? Reduced page length, dynamic visitor interaction, and the “wow” factor that makes a page stand out.
Excellent! The “after” really is a big improvement – the site looks more cohesive and polished!
We are all so pleased with the new website. Our customers have been saying great things about the new look. And more than that…beyond the site looking fantastic, it functions much better than before. We could not have done it without you, Fastpivot. Looking forward to continuing the relationship.
