The Mobile Store Revolution Is Upon Us: 2010 Begins the Age of M-commerce

With a global consumer base tossing out their dumb flip phones in favor of smart phones, a noticeable shift has begun to take place within the world of ecommerce. In fact, the shift is so palpable that industry trend watchers are calling it the beginning of the age of mcommerce. It has long been believed that when given the tools necessary to shop mobile, consumers would do just that. But that’s not been completely true until the recent mass introduction of the smart phone. High demand has led to better security and more convenient mobile shopping.

Sometimes it’s a little challenging for a traditional ecommerce merchant to picture why mobile commerce shoppers can’t just type in the store’s url, find the product they want, and purchase. The number one reason why mobile shoppers may abandon cart is because a standard ecommerce online store isn’t optimized for mobile commerce. Mobile smart phone shoppers can’t navigate through a full size e-store on a 3×3 inch mobile smart phone screen. Online store product data needs to be streamlined (like we’ve done in the WorldSoccerShop.com mobile store design; see below), otherwise mobile shoppers will view your online store as a veritable labyrinth not worth maneuvering.
