Yesterday, Bit Rebels published an article titled, Top 5 Web Design Trends for 2012, which ranks mobile #2 on the list (Other items included User Experience (#1), Typography (#3), Rich Colors & Text (#4), and HTML5/CSS3 (#5)).

Mobile commerce for Yahoo! Stores has only increased in popularity, and many Yahoo! merchants are using third party custom solutions (Yahoo! doesn’t offer a standard feature for mobile). Users in general have been pleased with mobile design features for the Yahoo! Stores, especially those who want upgraded and advanced development options beyond the boilerplate header, featured items, and search  sections. Regarding ROI, at least one Yahoo! merchant we know say a 136% increase in revenue during the research phase for this mobile commerce success story. During the same research time period, FastPivot compared mobile activity from 15 randomly selected Yahoo! Stores, and saw an average increase in mobile traffic of 68% and in revenue of 119% (In just five months).

Most merchants who are tenacious about preserving their classic (non-mobile friendly) site design have slowly released grip on that antiquated idea. Mobile friendly designs are easier to shop, and as mobile customers become more tech savvy with their devices, they don’t want to pinch in and out of the traditional webstore design to shop. All webstores should be streamlined and convenient to shop from mobile, that is if merchants want to see increases in their mobile conversions.
