A University and Its Decision to Build a WordPress Website

Universidad Casa Grande (UCG), which is an internationally recognized and national award winning school of design located in Guayaquil, Ecuador, contracted FastPivot.com earlier this year to strategically shift their university’s internet presence over to the WordPress platform. While the original Universidad Casa Grande website is still being used (as you might imagine, a university website includes extraordinary amounts of content), the custom Word Press ecommerce solution and online matrix, developed by Aldo Dager on behalf of FastPivot, has been enabled and is now being (screen shot below) populated with content from the existing site.

A special note of thanks to UCG’s website project consultant and Advisor to the UCG President, Steven Wille, for his patience, support, and insights through the design process.

Why WordPress?

If, from the screenshot above, it’s not already clear why Universidad Casa Grande decided to upgrade their website using WordPress, let’s take a minute to discuss the strategic benefits of such a decision.

  • The open source WordPress community is a developer’s dream–this progressive model pushes the platform to be innovative, collaborative and flexible.
  • WordPress makes it possible to select from thousands of Plugins that can imbue the site with backup security options, trusted payment solutions, a mobile-friendly WordPress site display, etc.

  • With WordPress design options are only limited by the developer’s lack of imagination and skills–Universidad Casa Grande has a reputation built around world class design, so it is only befitting they use a site that projects and compliments their core purpose and mission.
  • WordPress is perfect for any university interested in maintaining its own site (vs. paying the high price, in time and money, for PHP/CSS/XHTML web developers to make every little change). After the custom design is finalized, its easy to train virtually anyone on using a WordPress CMS (content management system)
  • WordPress made it easy to integrate and display Universidad Casa Grande’s Youtube, Twitter & Facebook social media channels.
