Simply Youth Ministry Reveals Secret Social Media Handshake

Justin Boling, who manages Simply Youth Ministry‘s social media campaign (boasting 12,000+ FB fans!) recently let us in on their secret handshake, or formula for success if you will. For those who know Justin, no it’s not about him believing that skinny jeans are cool and lucky, like some football players do with their special “game sock.” Oh wait, that’s Andy’s thing, but moving on…

Our original strategy was to create one great deal using one product and drive as much traffic as we could to our store on that day. With the goal being a ton of traffic in a short period of time will equal a ton of sales in short period of time. We did this with a one-time dedicated email and tons of, what we call, social love.

Social love is a term our team uses when referring to anyone mentioning anything about us in a tweet, Facebook post or blog. We have a small group of networked bloggers, tweeters, and Facebookers that we go to when we post a new deal of the day to help get the word out faster.

How do we now they help?

One, 75% of our deal of the day offers have sold-out within 3-4 hours of their release, which means the word is getting out to the masses super fast. Two, the email open rates on these one-time sends are 5% lower than our average, which means people check things like Twitter and Facebook before email. Overall the success has been overwhelmingly positive, as well as an encouragement to keep growing, building and exploring the social world.

Although Simply Youth Ministry has clearly put together an effective combo with their daily deal and big dose of “social love” to excite fans, they’re still keeping the page interesting with engaging questions, and other tasty morsels of social media goodness.
