Design Considerations – eCommerce Store 101: Learning Series

Creating an online business can be daunting. Establishing a brand (your logo, your tag line, your “look”) is pivotal. Also, knowing how to reach your audience cannot be overlooked. Without credibility, a user-friendly site and a crowd of consumers, you will not succeed.

After you’re live, then what happens to the people you’ve used to build your site? Do they have a diverse team of specialists to continue to support you as you gain momentum? In Part 1 of this series, consider these attributes to ensure that your needs have been adequately scoped for success:

design

It starts with….Design:
Working with a designer to visually represent a site around your brand is crucial to establishing overall connection and user interface. This can often be 40% or more of a budget created when putting together a completely thought-through site.

The designer is tasked with not only capturing your brand and creating a credible look, but also with creating the visible interface when someone interacts with your site (whether they’re scrolling through tabbed content, using drop-down navigation or signing up for a contest). The more interfacing and actions you want on a site, the more design (and typically development) time is needed.

Budgetary needs should also be considered for “supporting” visual elements needed. This includes creating main messaging banners (found on home pages and sometimes on section pages). If you want a rotating zone on your home page for banners and images, do you have the in-house capabilities to keep these fresh or do you need support in creating those pieces?

FastPivot can work with clients to evaluate the level of design budget needed, including:

  • Designs provided by client’s in-house designer
  • Designs half prepared or conceptualized that need finalized for production
  • Full Design from a FastPivot Graphic Artist from concept to production-ready
  • Logos, banners and other design needs
